During all Thursdays of July (4th, 11th, 18th and 25th) is celebrating the short-films festival Preview 2013 in Barcelona. Para todos aquellos que no hayáis escuchado nada sobre él, Mecal es un festival internacional de cortometrajes y animación que se celebra durante el mes de abril en Barcelona, con punto de partida este jueves 4. La agencia barcelonesa Snoop Barcelona nos ha enviado el vídeo promocional que han realizado para el festival, ofreciendo un merecido tributo al GIF animado.
For those who have never heard about it, Mecal is an internacional ShortFilm and Animation festival which is celebrated in Barcelona during April, starting this April 4th. The Barcelona based agency Snoop Barcelona has sent us the promotional video they have done for the festival, paying a tribute to the Animated GIF.

Through handmade elements made by recycled cardboard, the talented director Rebecca Manley has skillfully created the short stop-motion film Duck Shoot.
Este año está a punto de terminar (tal vez se acabe el mundo también!!), así que decidimos cantar una canción, cortar y pegar papeles y pasar un buen rato animando una película. También decidimos que era el mejor momento para hacer un homenaje a uno de nuestros maestros, uno de los mejores animadores de todos los tiempos, Fyodor Khitruk! Nos encantan las animaciones “planas y llenas de vida – con muchos detalles – y con un desenfrenado amor por la ilustración” que hacía! Por eso decidimos crear nuestra pieza “The place where gisfts are crafted” aka Gnomos Kontraten. Esperamos que os guste!

The year is close to the end (maybe the world is ending too), so we decided to sing a song, cut some papers and have fun animating a movie. We also decided that it was the best moment to make a tribute to one of our masters, one of the best animators ever, Fyodor Khitruk! We love that “plain and vibrant – full of details – and always loving the illustration language” animation he made! So that’s why we decided to create our movie “The place where gisfts are crafted” aka Gnomos Kontraten. We hope you enjoy it!

El artista japonés de CG Toru Hayai -con la muy acorde hilo muical de Akihiro Morita- ha creado Not Over, una delicado corto de animación sobre un osito blanco de peluche gigante.
Japanese CG artist Toru Hayai, with the inspirational audio of Akihiro Morita, has created Not Over, a kind short animation story about a big white plush teddy.
“Hikikomori (ひきこもり o 引き篭り? literalmente “apartarse, estar recluido”, i.e., “aislamiento social agudo”) es un término japonés para referirse al fenómeno de gente apartada que ha escogido abandonar la vida social; a menudo buscando grados extremos de aislamiento y confinamiento, debido a varios factores personales y sociales en sus vidas.” Wikipedia dixit.
Nomeno vuelve a regalarnos una de sus piezas… una que son muchas o una sola, aún no terminamos de comprender… pero “no terminar de comprender” es la definición de “nomeno” y por eso estamos enamorados de todo lo que hace.

Hikikomori (ひきこもり or 引き籠もり Hikikomori?, literally “pulling inward, being confined”, i.e., “acute social withdrawal”) is a Japanese term to refer to the phenomenon of reclusive adolescents or young adults who have chosen to withdraw from social life, often seeking extreme degrees of isolation and confinement because of various personal and social factors in their lives. The term hikikomori refers to both the sociological phenomenon in general as well as to people belonging to this societal group.
Nomeno gave us one of his presents… one that is many but many as one, we still don’t quite understand… but “not quite understand” is the meaning of “nomeno” that is why we are in love with everything he does.

Hace un par de días, ví el trailer de este acojonante corto producido por ellos y dirigido por Emma De Swaef y Marc James Roels. Un soberbio trabajo de marionetas en un ultra detallado mundo artesanal.
¡No puedo esperar a ver el resultado final!
Beast animation is a Belgium company which directs and produces stop motion films for cinema, tv or others platforms. A couple of days ago, I watched the trailer of this amazing stop-motion short film produced by them and directed by Emma De Swaef and Marc James Roels. A superb puppetry work in a high-detailed handcrafted world. I can’t wait to watch the full movie!
